The Challenge

SA Harvest needed a digital platform to scale their mission of rescuing nutritious food from landfill and delivering it to vulnerable communities across South Africa, while making it easy for corporate partners and individual donors to engage.

ObjectivesWhat we set out to achieve
Build a platform showcasing real-time impact metrics
Create a straightforward donation and sponsorship portal
Develop beneficiary and partner management systems
Amplify advocacy and education through a content engine
Our ApproachDiscovery, Design, Architecture & Development
Step 1Discovery

A 4-week discovery phase working closely with SA Harvest operations, fundraising, and communications teams to understand beneficiary workflows, donor journeys, and impact reporting requirements.

Step 2Design

Designed a React-based platform with a real-time impact dashboard as the centrepiece, supported by a secure donation portal, beneficiary management system, and content management engine.

Step 3Architecture

React frontend with Python/PostgreSQL backend, Redis for real-time impact metrics caching, and AWS infrastructure designed for cost-effective scaling as the organisation grows.

Step 4Development

Over 20 weeks, we delivered in three phases: core impact dashboard and donation infrastructure (weeks 1-8), beneficiary and partner management portal (weeks 9-14), and advocacy and storytelling content system (weeks 15-20).
