The Challenge

Independent local fashion retailers were invisible online. Shoppers had no way to see what nearby shops stocked without walking to each one, and shop owners could not afford conventional e-commerce platforms built for single large sellers. The venture needed a mobile marketplace where many small vendors could coexist — with discovery driven by proximity, trust established through reviews, and a product catalogue structured for Indian GST compliance from the ground up.

ObjectivesWhat we set out to achieve
Design a complete multi-vendor marketplace app centred on map-based local discovery
Structure a two-level fashion taxonomy with HSN codes and GST rates across men's and women's ranges
Build trust mechanisms — shop profiles, ratings and reviews — into every purchase path
Deliver an end-to-end flow: browse, product detail, shop profile, cart, booking and order history
Our ApproachDiscovery, Design, Architecture & Development
Step 1Discovery

Interviews with local shop owners and shoppers established the core insight: discovery is geographic first, categorical second. This drove the decision to build the Near By experience around Google Maps with distance and category filters as primary navigation rather than afterthoughts.

Step 2Design

An 18-screen system spanning splash, home feed, map-based discovery (with distance and category variants), category browsing, product detail, shop profiles, reviews, dual cart states, booking, menu and account management. Visual language kept commerce cues familiar — prices, ratings and availability always visible at decision points.

Step 3Architecture

Catalogue modelled for many independent vendors: main categories, subcategories and products mapped to HSN codes with applicable GST rates for both men's and women's ranges — extracted from statutory rate tables and encoded into the taxonomy so pricing, invoicing and compliance stayed correct as vendors listed inventory.

Step 4Development

A 4-month engagement delivered in phases: taxonomy and catalogue structure (weeks 1-3), core flows — home, discovery, product and shop (weeks 4-9), transaction flows — cart, booking, orders and reviews (weeks 10-14), and polish plus stakeholder review builds (weeks 15-16).

Challenges SolvedComplex problems we overcame
Made hundreds of independent vendors browsable through geography instead of overwhelming global catalogues
Solved tax-compliance complexity by baking statutory coding into the catalogue itself rather than treating it as back-office paperwork
Kept purchase paths short enough for impulse local shopping while preserving review-driven trust
Performance ImprovementsMeasurable metrics
Discovery reachable within one tap from home via the Near By tab
Product-to-purchase path minimised to four screens
Filter combinations (distance × category) pre-computed for instant result updates
Business Impact

HoHoDidi's design gave local fashion retailers their first viable digital storefront and gave the venture a defensible market position: proximity-based discovery no national player was offering, backed by a compliance-ready catalogue that made vendor onboarding a listing exercise rather than a legal project.
